A day at S.T.R.I.V.E

We get out of bed, we get dressed for the day and go on to conquer it. What we fail to imagine is a life where being on our own, and being capable of doing things independently is not possible. If only we stop to contemplate, we realize how we take everyday routine for granted; things like eating on our own, being able to communicate our thoughts and feelings, walking by ourselves etc.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Yesterday, I spent a day in STRIVE; one of the few, extremely equipped and well- organized pre-schools that cater children with special needs. I honestly don’t know how to comprehend my fascination at the dedication and hard work I saw displayed on the extremely artistic walls, in the specific therapy rooms, in the efforts of the teachers frantically planning the day for each student early in the morning. I could see it everywhere. Before the students came over, I was allowed to tour each room and observe.

There was a Speech Therapy room, a Sensory Therapy room, a Motor skills therapy room, an Art room, and a Dining Room. The entire place was bursting with happy colors and informative art. Each room was meticulously designed to serve its purpose. The room to develop motor skills was the biggest one, furnished with safe, indoor playground equipment. The sensory room was lit with a subtle, blue light and of course, the sensory equipment. It was emanating a certain peace and warmth; that being the entire purpose of it.

I got a chance to interact with the therapists and teachers there. You could, in their eyes, see the dedication and love for the kids and their job as they went on explaining about their arduous tasks for each day. I admired their devotion to this job and it made me so content knowing that there are organizations as such working effortfully to create such a safe and suitable environment for children with special needs.

I was able to observe everything in action once, one by one, cheerful, young children with happy smiles displayed on their adorable faces started coming by to start their day. Every teacher was assigned a one-on-one interaction with each child, working to get them to perform their tasks planned for the day.

I noticed how the strong, tiny human beings struggled to do each task, but remained steadfast and determined. I stood at a distance and smiled at them, admiring their strength and motivation to perform actions that we tend do do daily, without even realizing. It is in that moment, that I was able to discern the difference between a typical and untypical life. I wish more people find out about this system dedicated to providing the best possible environment for parents and children requiring one.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3718″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Visitor Post”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
