Importance of Bedtime reading for Children

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents start reading to their children since they are born and continuing through kindergarten. Reading is a great habit if you want to incorporate a good personality and skills in your child since the beginning. Consistent reading has many benefits not only to the child’s intellectual growth but also emotional growth as they learn to appreciate feelings for certain characters/plots etc. Continuous reading aloud gives children a head-start into their education and primes the development of reading skills. The emotional connection developed to reading and writing through this habit lasts a lifetime. [/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”‘It is one of the most pleasurable activities that you can do with your child – there is physical closeness but its probably the most unhurried time that children have with their parent and it is focused on them.’ ” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:center|color:%23bababa”][vc_custom_heading text=”Dr Barry Zuckerman – Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:right”][vc_tta_pageable no_fill_content_area=”1″ autoplay=”3″ active_section=”1″ pagination_color=”purple” title=”Recent Science covering the benefits of shared parent-child reading: “][vc_tta_section title=”READING AND VOCABULARY” tab_id=”1574947179572-a63edbae-e457″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reading and Vocabulary” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left”][vc_single_image image=”3903″ alignment=”center” css_animation=”appear”][vc_column_text]Needless to say, reading to your child tends to build in their vocabulary, grammar and reading skills since the beginning and it’s further boosted for later years. Since this is the age that the brain is most receptive to learning, it is also the best chance for them to learn words and knowledge that won’t compare to learning in any other age.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Positive Behaviour” tab_id=”1574947455097-ebeb4ef3-6a1a”][vc_custom_heading text=”Positive Behaviour” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left”][vc_single_image image=”3906″ alignment=”center” css_animation=”bottom-to-top”][vc_column_text]Reading aloud for children under the age of 3 has shown to a sustained impact on the child’s aggression and hyperactivity.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Nurturing Relationships” tab_id=”1574947451907-39b278a2-7cef”][vc_custom_heading text=”Nurturing Relationships” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left”][vc_single_image image=”3913″ alignment=”center” css_animation=”left-to-right”][vc_column_text]Early reading has shown through brain imaging to develop nurturing relationships that promote early brain development. It is mainly because of the neural connections that develop as your child spends time and interacts with you, enjoying the attention and affection simultaneously.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Intellectual Growth” tab_id=”1574948429746-457f1e90-66e0″][vc_custom_heading text=”Intellectual Growth” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left”][vc_single_image image=”3904″ alignment=”center” css_animation=”left-to-right”][vc_column_text]A child’s brain sparks creativity and imagination most. Through reading, their brains get an opportunity to develop that creativity and visit places, worlds and characters for which they would never get a chance in real life. Reading also allows logic development as well as concentration span which are useful assets later in life.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_pageable][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”A few ways of keeping this habit of interest for your child could be:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left”][vc_message message_box_style=”3d” message_box_color=”purple” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-book”]

  1. Keep it fun; not too long or advanced
  2. Start young
  3. Remain consistent; even five minutes each day if you lack time but not missing a day
  4. Stop to answer questions
  5. Let them choose the book/genre

[/vc_message][vc_column_text]Here at Sarah’s, we believe that books are a great asset for your child and their development therefore, we spend a few minutes dedicated to reading with your child only. This begins from preschool and goes on to primary school. Through this, we play our role in incorporating this beautiful habit in them since day one.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
