PETS AND THEIR ROLE IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]One of the greatest issues in being a parent arise when your child demands to own a pet against your wishes. Your concerns are understandable and recognized, however, there might be a few good reasons why your child’s request might be worth looking over just this one time.

To begin with the purchase or adoption, let’s go over the need to own an appropriate pet. Pets are a serious business; a new addition to your very family. And therefore, one needs to consider factors like family lifestyle, space, finances, time dedication and most importantly, your child’s temperament around animals. It is essential that you understand each one of these and then compare it with the pet that your child wants. For example, pets like hamsters, fish, small birds like parrots etc are low maintenance and easy to own if you lack time and space to look after them. Most kids, however, love owning a cat or dog. These pets can be a little heavy on the pocket to maintain but have the most benefits of interaction with your child.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”BENEFITS OF PET OWNERSHIP” font_container=”tag:h1|text_align:center|color:%238224e3″][vc_custom_heading text=”RESPECT”][vc_column_text]By owning a pet of their own, your child learns to give respect, care, and love. Animals have limits too, and even though they enjoy interaction, sometimes they like to have space and your child understands that. This trait can then be useful in human interactions too.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”RESPONSIBILITY”][vc_column_text]It is essential that this quality is instilled in a child when they are growing, because it is one of the qualities that goes on for life and helps them in their future endeavors. This quality is developed as the child is responsible for feeding the pet, maintaining hygiene around the pet, looking after its needs etc.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”EMPATHY”][vc_column_text]By owning a pet, your child is given the opportunity to become a caregiver. They learn to care for the pet’s needs, anxieties and fears. This is also useful for them to apply while interacting with people too. [/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”SELF ESTEEM”][vc_column_text]Pets are great listeners, nonjudgmental and therefore tend to become a child’s closest friend in their early years when they might be shy to trust anyone else. They are always available for your child’s source of affection. Many children find comfort in shedding a tear or sharing secrets with this family member.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”OVERCOMING FEARS”][vc_column_text]Children who don’t interact with animals in their youth tend to develop a fear of them and this is a great way to get avoid that. [/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”CIRCLE OF LIFE”][vc_column_text] A pet’s health declines due to illness or old age, therefore, children learn that life is not infinite, but love and memories are. A child learns that they can live through the grieving process and appreciate the life of a special family member.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text]We at Sarah’s fully support pet ownership and play our role in letting our students interact with animals by taking them on field trips to the zoo or farmhouse. We believe that a child grows emotionally and intellectually by owning a pet close to their heart.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
