Importance Of Art In A Child’s Development

If you are a parent there has probably been more than one occasion where your child grabbed a color pencil or paintbrush and displayed their artistic skills on a wall or an important piece of paper. You may have scolded them or gotten upset over this incident. Instead, that moment should actually be spent appreciating the child, giving them their space and a medium to create their own art.

You see, art is one of the most unique and beautiful forms of expression. Every child or person makes their own art and channels their individual emotions or feelings by it. Art is especially important for a child because how it allows individualization and provides them a means to express their thoughts, interests, and feelings.

“Here are the 3 main reasons as to why you need to encourage your child to practice art:”
“MOTOR SKILLS”

When a child holds a paintbrush or a crayon in order to exercise his/her movement abilities, the motor skills tend to get polished and worked on. Furthermore, using scissors to cut something out helps them develop the dexterity the children need for writing.

“DECISION MAKING”

Arts has been proven to enhance problem-solving and critical thinking skills in children. It gives them choices and urges them to make decisions in the course of making art – a crucial trait that translates into other parts of life. Through art, their creativity and imagination is further sparked and they are able to develop the ability to explore on their own.

“EMOTIONAL AND INTELLECTUAL GROWTH”

Art employs all a child’s senses such as touch, sight, smell, and hence sparks up the neural connections in their brains allowing greater intellectual growth. In fact, a young brain is like a sponge that absorbs every little information it is exposed to. In young children, artistic activities lead to the formation of well-rounded personalities, good attachment, self-esteem and better mental health.

Art doesn’t only form in drawing and painting but also lies in music, dancing, and literature. At Sarah’s, we make it our aim to use these creative tools to exercise our students’ imagination and expression skills as we promote art, music, and literature to push any boundaries ahead.
